It is fair to say, I am a food geek. I love finding out about food. It is what inspired me to get a degree in Food Science and Nutrition - and I LOVED my degree course.

Learning about food science and nutrition covers a lot of different topics.

During my degree, I learnt about how food is made, how to keep food safe, nutrition, the interactions of food within our body including how it can impact diseases like cancer, as well as understanding a bit more about how the food industry works. My degree was both hands-on and theory based - for me the best of both worlds.

Studying food at university was the perfect it for me. There are so many different routes though to studying food, including degrees, apprenticeships and learning on the job in the industry.

If you know someone who could be interested in a food science degree, check out the UCAS website with more information: https://www.ucas.com/explore/subjects/food-science-and-nutrition

Whilst at university, I also became a member and Young Ambassador of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST). They are the professional body for those working in food, and a fountain of knowledge and support. It was through the IFST that I began working to connect young people and food - through hosting stalls at science fairs and developing competitions. More info about what they do can be found on their website: https://www.ifst.org/
